It would appear that Facebook leads to an increased risk of cancer. Well, at least that's what popular (and unpopular) British newspaper, The Daily Mail claim.
We could have a huge health crisis on our hands (and in our hands) if lots of people rush out and buy the world's best mobile device of the year... the INQ1 (aka the 'facebook phone').
Fear not though as, like almost all of these health scares emanating from the Mail, it's a load of old cod's wallop (aka a load of old bollocks). Everyone knows it's MySpace that gives you cancer*
*that's a joke Rupert!
Social networking site Bebo is already taking Mobile seriously. They have a rather nice, rather clean, rather useful mobile site. But that's not enough any more. Things need to be better integrated, as seamless and uncomplicated for the end user as possible. That's the logic behind Hutchison Whampoa spin-off INQ Mobile, and their INQ1 (the so called 'Facebook phone').
Incidentally I found the absence of Bebo from the integrated features a huge omission, especially when one considers the huge amount of younger people (in the UK especially) that use it over Facebook and MySpace. I was told by INQ folk that the platform they've used for Facebook integration can be adapted for more social nets as and when they come on board.
In my opinion a 'Bebo phone' would be huge in that market. But what do I know? I only have five friends on Bebo (I'm really too old to be on it, had my arm twisted by younger family members!)
IntoMobile: Bebo Open Mobile launched to spread Bebo across mobiles
On Saturday I received my trial INQ1 from the fine folk at 3mobilebuzz. I've had some play time with it over the weekend but haven't really digested my thoughts of it yet. One thing that stands out however is how good it looks in the flesh. In comparison my much more expensive N95 8GB seems plasticky and, dare I say it, cheap.
Anyway, here's some pictures I've taken with it so far. These are an accurate indication as to what a newbie taking pictures on the phone can come up with. Hopefully I'll take better ones when I've gotten used to it. Although low light will always be a problem as it doesn't have a flash.
Sorry, I'm out of puns that are remotely funny or relevant. Anyway, below you'll find some hastily edited videos from the guys that were behind the new INQ1 handset that's now out to buy in the shops right now (or at least it should be).
Why so hastily edited and why so long after the launch event? The footage was on the Toshiba Tecra M9 that the kind folk of talkToshiba loaned me (for a very generous amount of time, I might add... cheers guys!) And er, that was going back today. As for why I hadn't already edited and upped the videos... I'm terrible at getting things done when they should be done!
All videos captured on a Canon DV camcorder (the model I forget) and edited with Windows Movie Maker on a Toshiba Tecra M9. Nice and simple, if I can do it anyone can! Oh, and I was able to transfer files and use Firefox without a hiccup during the video authoring/conversion process. Excellent stuff!
Under a shroud of secrecy and mystery 3 UK are about to launch a Facebook phone. Lots of speculation on the interweb that it'll be the INQ1 from 3's parent company Hutchison Whampoa's new INQ Mobile handset divison.
This is actually old news but for some reason it's all over the tech sites today and as I hadn't mentioned it before I'll chime in with no information of my own to add...
...I just don't know enough about the thing and my detective skills and uncanny ability to read between the lines (often unintentionally and sometimes with hilarious consequences) have gotten me nowhere.
INQ Mobile - just love those big colourful squares, how about designing a phone with them on? Same goes for that BlackBerry that's covered in picture tiles in those ads, I want one that looks like that! Am I alone in having this desire for a funky looking modern art-astic handset?
If and when a proper branded Facebook phone hits the market, wouldn't a more catchy name be Facefone? Or has that been taken already?
