Social networking site Facebook (like it needs an introduction!) now has over 300 million users worldwide. Not just that but, for the first time ever in its history, it's actually making enough money to cover its costs.
The site had only 100 million users this time last year. I'm no mathmatician, statistician or an electrician but that seems like a hell of a lot of growth. Y'know, like 3X or something.
Social networking site Bebo is already taking Mobile seriously. They have a rather nice, rather clean, rather useful mobile site. But that's not enough any more. Things need to be better integrated, as seamless and uncomplicated for the end user as possible. That's the logic behind Hutchison Whampoa spin-off INQ Mobile, and their INQ1 (the so called 'Facebook phone').
Incidentally I found the absence of Bebo from the integrated features a huge omission, especially when one considers the huge amount of younger people (in the UK especially) that use it over Facebook and MySpace. I was told by INQ folk that the platform they've used for Facebook integration can be adapted for more social nets as and when they come on board.
In my opinion a 'Bebo phone' would be huge in that market. But what do I know? I only have five friends on Bebo (I'm really too old to be on it, had my arm twisted by younger family members!)

Juror used Facebook to help her decide case she was hearing, she could've faced prison.
If there were ever proof that trial by jury isn't all it's cracked up to be, a juror in the UK asked her Facebook friends to help make up her mind. As almost every adult knows er, you're not meant to discuss the bloody case with anyone! If she hadn't known before she was picked, she should've damn well known the moment she got the letter.
Would you want someone like that deciding the fate of someone who'd wronged you, or if you yourself had been wrongly accused of something?
She got off scot free though and, presumably, doesn't have to worry about doing jury service ever again!
L'Inq: Social networking juror kicked* out of court
*personally I would've gone with 'poked'! :o)
Here's INQ Mobile's Frank Meehan explaining the ideas behind the INQ1 (it'll be a 3 exclusive to begin with... before anyone asks!)
Just knocked this out in a pub. Excuse the quality!
Could this be the man behind the infamous "Katie" premium rate scam? Anyone know more about him or the companies connected with him? As well as Spread Media, there's Equinox Agency Ltd, Vaudaville.com and Photoidol
Here's a picture of a guy who I believe must be the David Shepard - courtesy of facebook.
Is it just me or are there ever more distractions in life, especially of the online variety? More seem to pop up everyday - a new blog, new website, new software, updated software, 1000s of news articles, new ways of doing this, that or the other... Oh, and friends wanting you to take tests on Facebook!
Then there's a wealth of stuff out there that I don't know about and may never find out about - where's the internet's "TiVo"? Is this a good thing or not? I'm plenty of stuff that interests me but at the same time I don't have time to keep up with everything else as it is!
So, has anyone any recommendation for a "consolidate your nets" service/site. Maybe a half decent RSS reader that works on a range of devices and is actually practical!
Or, in other words... Nokia Sports Tracker goes Facebook
I love Nokia's Sports Tracker and think it's great that they've added Facebook functionality to the app, it's just a shame I haven't gotten it to work yet!
